Michelle G. Newman is a Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry, and the Director of the Center for the Treatment of Anxiety and Depression at the Pennsylvania State University. She received her Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1992 and completed a post- doctoral Fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine in 1994. Dr. Newman has conducted basic and applied research on anxiety disorders and depression and has published over 250 papers on these topics. She is currently on the editorial boards of Psychotherapy Research, Cognitive Therapy and Research, Behavior Therapy, and Health Policy Review. She is the past editor of Behavior Therapy and is currently an Associate Editor of American Psychologist and Journal of Anxiety Disorders. She is also the recipient of the APA Division 12 Turner Award for distinguished contribution to clinical research, the APA Division 29 Award for Distinguished Publication of Psychotherapy Research, the ABCT Outstanding Service Award, the APA Division 12 Toy Caldwell-Colbert Award for Distinguished Educator in Clinical Psychology, and the Raymond Lombra Award for Distinction in the Social or Life Sciences. She is also a Fellow of American Psychological Association Divisions 29 and 12, of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and of American Psychological Society.
